[NOTE - This is one of TWO events starting in Ranger (east of Abilene) on the same date! This event is a Help On The Homefront event to escort a U-Haul truck from Ranger to the home of an OIF/OEF Vet in Arlington. The other event is the dedication of a Viet Nam War Memorial in Ranger. Another message will be sent about that event.]
HOTH EVENT - Escort from Ranger, TX, to Arlington, TX, Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007
Background:
Source:
Michael "Tiny" Minton
Tehachapi RC
Commander VFW Post 5948
Proud Member of the PGR
The Need:
We have a unique situation and need your help. We have a Veteran that was living in CA, since his tour in Iraq has ended he has now come home to his parents home in Texas. This young man has furniture in a Storage Facility in California that needs to get to Texas. It was left in the Storage Unit and the bill was suppose to have been paid by his now ex-spouse. He found out that the furniture was still there and about to be auctioned off. Soldiers Angels stepped in and paid all of the back rent due on the unit.
Now this young man, who has recently been released from the VA in Dallas, needs to get that furniture from CA to Dallas, Texas. A wonderful Soldiers' Angel, who is also a member of the PGR, is working with the PGR in CA to help get his furniture back to Texas.
North Texas Participation:
Tiny (who is a Ride Captain in California) is driving a U-Haul truck with all of the soldier's furniture all the way from San Diego to Arlington. Last word we got, he plans to be in Ranger around 10 AM, Saturday. Scott Wilson is the North Texas Ride Captain who'll meet Tiny in Ranger and start the escort from there. John Kisel will be the RC for any PGR members who'd like to ride this HOTH Mission but can't make it all the way to Ranger. John will have a group waiting in southwest Fort Worth to join Tiny, Scott and the riders out of Ranger. The destination is the 6200 block of Snow Ridge Court in Arlington (just north of TCC SE Campus, Highway 360 & Harwood). Note - the soldier has not been made aware of the extent of the Patriot Guard Riders' involvement in this event - it should be a big surprise when we roll up en masse.
