PGR HOTH Mission - Welcome Home, LCPL Patrick Myers, USMC, North Fort Worth, Friday, 17 AUG 07
Ride Captains:
Wendy "HotLips" Ingersoll, califbabe55 at yahoo.com, 805.587.9453
Mark "BluHog" Ingersoll, bluhog at patriotguard.org, 817.938.3544
Background (1):
LCPL Patrick Myers is finally being released from Brooke Army Medical Center after a 21 month long rehabilitation. Patrick's back was broken as he was thrown from the vehicle he was riding in, as well as instantly losing both of his legs, above the knee. Patrick is from Grapevine, TX, and has recently purchased a home in the Keller/Ft. Worth area. Patrick will be arriving home this coming Friday from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. We are planning a proper "Welcome Home a Hero" for him.
Donna Cranston, Founder
Defenders of Freedom
Background (2):
Corporal Myers will be escorted by the ALR and the SCRC. There will also be DPS and possibly FWPD involvement, possibly a LEO or FD vehicle from Crowley - in other words, a sizeable contingent. And, given the fact that the group will be arriving during rush hour, the decision has been made that the PGR's official participation will be to provide a Flag Line at the Myers residence in north Fort Worth.
Staging and Mission:
We will gather at the Myers residence at 4920 Orchid Drive, Fort Worth*, from 1700 to 1725. There will be a quick briefing and the Flag Line will be in place at 1730. As always, we'll be flexible as the traffic can be unpredictable and the group's arrival could be delayed.
Jimmy Jones will have the flag truck there for us, along with some cold drinks. Ms Cranston of the Defenders of Freedom advised me she will also have some drinks.
Weather:
As of 2127 Wednesday evening, the forecast for Friday was, "Mostly cloudy with a 50% percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 90s. East winds around 10 MPH." Friday night, "Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly in the evening. Lows in the mid 70s. East winds around 10 MPH in the evening becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation 40 percent."
*Directions:
The Myers residence is just north of Western Center Boulevard/Watauga Road, between I-35W and Highway 377. This is all north of Loop 820.
>From I-35W - Exit 58, turn east on Western Center BLVD for 2.3 miles to Braeview Drive. Turn north (left) on Braeview until it dead-ends at Orchid. Turn west (left) on Orchid.
>From Hwy. 377 - Turn west on Watauga Road, cross over the railroad tracks, continue for 0.6 mile to Braeview Drive. Turn north (right) on Braeview until it dead-ends at Orchid. Turn west (left) on Orchid.
We will position our vehicles further down the street past the Myers residence to allow for parking of the inbound motorcade. The neighbors and local LEOs have been advised.
Iron horses if you like, but this Special Mission does not involve a ride and it is right about quitting time for many of us, so if you're caging, that's not a problem - and remember, we're dealing with Texas weather.
Please join us, if you can, to Honor Lance Corporal Patrick Myers and his service to our nation, and to us!
