The 2008 DFW Toys for Tots Motorcycle Run is this Saturday, December 6th.
You don't have to ride to come by and enjoy the event.  But if you are
joining us on the ride, as always, safety is number one and we will have
escort throughout.  The Collin County Sherriff, McKinney PD, Melissa PD, and
Princeton PD will be participating.  The Dallas Star Touring and Riding
Chapter 172 will once again be our Road Captain and providing Road Guards
along the secondary intersections.  

Print out and fill out the attached Registration Form (Release), and bring
with you to the Registration Table.  This will speed up the registration
process.

Some of what will be happening: 

.         There has been a slight change in the program and we'll be leaving
about 15 minutes later than originally published.

o    10:30 Prayer, Pledge, and State Proclamation

o    10:40 Start engines

o    10:45 Head Out

.         We'll have a 7-ton with Marines in Dress Blues collecting toys.
We'll also have the Marine Hummer leading us through the route.  The toy
collection will occur after we complete the route.

.         The North Texas Job Corps, across from the VFW Post, is
participating with us this year, providing additional parking to handle the
overflow.  The VFW did perform some repairs on their parking lot.  In all,
staging and parking will be much better this year.

.         State Representative Ken Paxton will be presenting a State
proclamation to Capt Cheryl Grosso, DFW T4T Coordinator, and MajGen Bill
Gossell (ret), DFW T4T Civilian Chairman, recognizing the great work T4T
does in our community.  

.         Before the ride, the VFW Post will be serving breakfast for
donations.  They put on a pretty good spread for this event.  Come early and
have something to eat before the ride.

.         We'll have a limited number of Pins, Patches, and T-Shirts for
sale.  All proceeds go to the DFW Toys for Tots Foundation.  Check them out

.         There will be a Santa on a white Victory motorcycle for pictures,
so bring the kids.  Money raised goes to support Relief Nursery of Collin

.         Plano West Rotary is working with Relief Nursery of Collin County
to sell funnel cakes, also as a fundraiser for Relief Nursery.

.         We have an after the ride raffle with great items donated by area
merchants.  You can get your tickets on the morning of the event.

.         And, we'll have plenty of other vendors catering to you and your
bikes, such as Christian Brooks leather and sewing, patches, bike lighting,
and more.

Finally, below and attached is information about the Marine Forces Reserve
Band area concerts the same week as the MR.

The Marine Forces Reserve Band is scheduled to perform two free concerts in
the local area as part of their 2008 "Santa Meets Sousa" Toys for Tots
concert tour.  

The Mansfield performance is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday Dec.
5 at the Willie Pigg Auditorium. 
The Garland performance is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday Dec.
6 at Naaman Forrest High School. 

These 90-minute holiday spectaculars will feature the concert band in
addition to nearly every small-ensemble within the unit.  Suitable for all
ages and musical tastes, the band will perform both traditional as well as
contemporary music commonly associated with the holiday season.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to
collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year,
and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the
community in which the campaign is conducted. 

The performances are free and open to the public.  However, the donation of
a new, unwrapped toy is suggested.  Collection barrels for toys will be
located at the concert sites.  All toys collected at the performances will
be distributed in the local area.

The Marine Forces Reserve Band, headquartered in New Orleans, is under the
direction of Chief Warrant Officer 3 Michael J. Smith.  This year marks the
band's third annual tour in support of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys
for Tots Program, which has enjoyed increased success each year.
