We will stage at Smokey's Barbecue at 1:00 PM and leave there at 1:45 PM to
ride to the school. The school principal has arranged for all of the
students and staff to be outside to observe our arrival. Anyone with a big
flag bike is asked to please try and attend this event as we try to make a
maximum showing of pride and patriotism for the kids.
The program itself is scheduled for a maximum of 30 minutes and will consist
of an awards presentation to the kids for the best essays written on what
patriotism means to them. Following those presentations will be the
presentation to the school of a flag that has been flown over operations in
Iraq. It is unknown at this time if the Sanger soldier who obtained this
flag will be there to present the flag personally. If he is not, our own
Steve Inmon will fill in for him and make this presentation on his behalf.
(The flag is already folded and in a case.)
The PGR flags will have already been placed in the ground prior to school
starting for the day and our riders will either stand by them or pull flags
and stand with them closer to the ceremonies. All activities will be held
outside unless weather makes it impossible.
Some riders plan on being in Sanger early to eat lunch at Smokey's and all
are invited to join at high noon to eat.
Weather: Forecast for Wednesday is for partly cloudy and 65 degrees.
Please dress accordingly and be prepared for anything.
The flag/water truck will be present.
This is a great opportunity to make a lasting impression on these kids, not
to mention the adults. We are fortunate we were invited to participate in
this event by our friends at the Veteran's Administration in Denton. The
theme for the students' essay contest was "What patriotism means to me."
Let's try as best we can to demonstrate for them that what they were writing
about lasts a lifetime and that even the grown-ups can show patriotism and
share it with them every day.
Respectfully Submitted,
Steve "Steve-Oh" Inmon
