Ladies and Gentlemen,
Edith Smith, "the afghan lady," just forwarded me an e-mail from the parents
of Sgt. Wesley Durbin, who was killed in Iraq and for whom we conducted a
mission not too long ago. I'm sure that those who participated in it will
remember. Edith had sent them an afghan and the Durbins had sent a thank
you letter in which they remembered and thanked the PGR. I thought everyone
might like to see it and have included the message below.
Again, thank you to everyone for what you do. You are important and this
message from the Durbins again reinforces that you do make a difference in
the lives of the families of the men and women we honor.

Dear Edith,
Our family is so touched by the gift of the Comfortghan!! The box was
sitting at or house when we arrived home from attending our son's Memorial
Tree Ceremony at Ft. Stewart. Needless to say, we were emotionally and
physically exhausted from the trip. Our hearts were warmed when we opened
the box and saw the beautiful Comfortghan made with loving hands for our
family. What a wonderful ministry you are providing. At this time, we
haven't been able to take the tags off because we are comforted by the fact
that people all over the country are sharing in our pain. We thank you for
your part in this project. It truly does mean more than you can ever know!
We also thank you for your participation as a Patriot Guard. Everyone and I
mean everyone is still telling us what a respectful presence the Patriot
Guard made in our final honoring of Wesley as we laid him to rest. There
were several things that were very important to our family as we dealt with
this tragedy and one was that Wesley was given all of the honor and dignity
we could manage. We didn't want any media interference or protesters to
detract from our laying him to rest in God's hands. The Patriot Guard did
such a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful job of helping us with that task. We
give thanks to God for your organization and what you do for the families of
fallen soldiers. Being left here on earth while our loved one has gone to
be with the Lord is a hard job and we thank you for helping us as we try to
continue on each day.
I wish I had eloquent words to tell you how we fell about each one of you,
but I'm not gifted with that ability. But, know we love and thank you all!
May God Bless you and keep you and may His face shine upon you and give
you Peace
Randy, Carole and Kenny Durbin
