[Mission Information For North Texas PGR]

Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

I received word late this morning of a tragedy that has befallen one of our
riders and his family.  After the escort mission was over yesterday our
friend Gary Maddux was on his way home when he was killed in an accident on
his motorcycle.  His wife was kind enough to send this information to us and
asked that it be passed to the PGR members.  I know that we all are saddened
by this terrible circumstance and mourn Gary's loss and share in the
suffering his family is going through at this time.  She added that Gary
always wanted the PGR to be involved in his funeral.

 

Please allow me to stress that this is ALL of the information that I have at
this time.  I refuse to speculate on anything at any time and I will share
with you any information I get as I get it from the family.  I have already
been in contact with them.  I know we all want to respect their privacy yet
stand by to assist them in any way we can.  I have assured them that the PGR
is at their disposal for anything they need.

 

I have one more urgent request of you.  I would ask that you please don't
let this get out to the Medal of Honor organizers or recipients until I have
a chance to speak with them personally.  While you and I know that they had
nothing to do with this, they are likely to feel responsible in some way and
I know they will be very saddened by this news.  We would hate to have their
visit compromised by this tragedy.  They will be notified but I ask that you
please allow me to do it.  I have developed a good working relationship with
them over the past few months and I think it's best if they hear it from me
rather than through a rumor somewhere.  I thank you all in advance for your
consideration and cooperation.

 

I feel confident that the PGR will be invited to participate in Gary's
services in some manner.  When I know, you'll know.  I thank you for your
patience and understanding.  I know this hits very close to home for all of
us in North Texas.

 

I ask that everyone please take a moment out of your day at some point today
and turn your thoughts to Gary and his family.
