Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have more advanced information for you on the escort and other festivities
surrounding the Vietnam wall escort the Patriot Guard has been asked to lead
next week. There will be more to follow, including an itinerary. This is
an overview of what we will be doing.
We will stage at Armstrong Park in Duncanville. It is located at Main and
James Collins Blvd. We will stage between 9 and 10 am and there will be
snacks for breakfast provided by a couple of vendors. I am expecting
several visitors from each of the four cities represented along with "Mama"
Nocker the mother of a Navy helicopter gunner shot down and killed in 1969
in Cambodia. Mama Nocker has requested to ride with one of our bikers maybe
a trike if possible (she is 82 and has done this before).
The City of Duncanville/Chamber of Commerce will have the first event at the
park at 10 am to celebrate and thank the veterans and those currently
serving in our military. We will need to be lined up and ready to depart
before the event.
We will depart the park at approximately 10:15 am and travel down Main to
Highway 67 and then to Cooper in Cedar Hill to Cedar Hill High School for
another 15 minute event.
We will depart from there down Belt Line Road to Westmoreland and south to
Eagle Drive and to the DeSoto High School. We will drive into the circular
drive and the ROTC and band will greet us and have another short event.
>From there we will travel to Hampton and south to Belt Line then East to
Highway 342 in Lancaster. We will then proceed north to Wintergreen and
Lancaster High School for the final event at the schools.
We will backtrack to Pleasant Run and west to Hampton Road in DeSoto and
north to Centre Park. We will arrive at the event site on Centre Park at
approximately 12:15 for a reception and Welcome Home for our veterans and
troops.
We will have police escort all the way from all four of the cities and the
event is being heavily advertised. All of the news media have been notified
of the escort and the event the rest of the week. I am expecting 200+
motorcycles for the escort plus the Liberty Bell, a Gold Star Dad from
Temple with a trailer with his son's tribute Harley for viewing,
Navy-Army-Marines-Air Force recruiter, and hopefully some World War II
Veterans to ride with us in SUV's. The PGR have been asked to lead this
escort/parade but all MC riders are invited and encouraged to participate.
This is being advertised as a Welcome Home parade for our veterans.
Our own Jerry Hall, primary organizer for this event would also like to have
about 10-15 MC's for the escort of the POW Michael Gesino and Gold Star Mom
Dorothy Shafernocker (Mama Nocker) who will be placing the wreaths at the
Wall on Thursday the 16th at 12 pm at the opening ceremonies. Jerry will
lead this event and the DeSoto police will assist us in that also. Jerry
wants to stage at the Lowe's Center at I-20 and Hampton in Dallas. It is
about a 2-3 mile escort to the event site.
On Sunday all motorcycle riders are invited to the event site for the Ride
of Honor. Meet at the site at 1 pm. There will be a church service that
morning also.
You can see that a big day is planned and even a couple of events for
motorcycles on following days. Please mark your calendars for the 15th and
make plans to attend.
More will follow shortly so please keep an eye out. I will also be posting
the flyers for the events that are up in the various locations, etc.
Thanks, everyone!!
Steve Lucas
