Welcome Home

Honoring the 949th Brigade Support Battalion

Mission Date; August 9, 2009

Ride Captains:

Floyd Kammerer; 817-690-6475 (C); fabfloyd at charter.net

They are coming home. The 949th Brigade Support Battalion, a part of the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team from Ft. Worth, Texas, is returning home from Iraq. This unit deployed to Iraq in November of 2008 and will be returning home to their families on Sunday afternoon. There are approximately 400 of these soldiers who will be arriving on busses. It will be an honor to be there to welcome them home. This will be a great time to stand by an American flag and honor these returning war veterans.

ALL GROUPS, CLUBS, INDEPENDENTS, ETC. ARE WELCOME. The only prerequisite is RESPECT. Also remember you do not have to ride a motorcycle to join in. The flag line is open to all who wish to participate.

One consideration to keep in mind is that there could be circumstances which could arise and advance or delay the arrival. SEMPER GUMBY

Flag Line: Sunday, August 9, 2009 – 4:00 PM

Staging – 3:00 PM; Briefing – 3:15 PM; flags in place by 3:30 PM

We will set up the flag line at the Armory and stand down until the buses arrive from Fort Bliss. This time will afford each rider a chance to walk around and introduce themselves to the families. Honoring the families with a “thank you” for their sacrifices is an opportunity we seldom have outside of a final mission, so please take the time to shake hands and let them know that others appreciate what they have gone through. We will be in contact with the bus by phone so we will be notified as to when to “man-the-flags”. Remember that our mission is to stand tall and honor these American heroes.

Weather: Mostly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 90s. South winds around 10 mph increasing to around 15 mph by noon.

With warmer weather being here please remember to properly hydrate (including the night before) before any outdoor activity and to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also, please don’t forget your sun screen.

The flag and water truck will be present.

Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and appreciated.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mike “Gunner" Lambert
