PGR_NTX Patriot Guard FW: Bret Wolf Project update
Mission Information For North Texas PGR

Sun Aug 9 16:30:32 CDT 2009
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Below is a message sent from the Project Manager of the Homes for Our Troops
home being built for Specialist Bret Wolf. You may recall that we recently
had a mission where we escorted Specialist Wolf and his wife to the site of
this build for the ceremonial raising of the final wall of the house and
where speeches were made by the VA representative, the Mayor, County Judge,
etc. Senior Ride Captain Dewey Dyer did a great job putting that mission
together. The message below, including the photos, was sent to all of the
Homes for Our Troops supporters across the country giving them an update on
the project. Be sure to take a look at the photos. You might see a few
familiar faces.wondering exactly what kind of surface they had just turned
on to as they arrived at the site.

Subject: Bret Wolf Project update
Hello to y'all from Texas North Country. It has been a while since I have
done an update on a HFOT project, so this may be a little longer than usual.
I arrived in Weatherford on the 21st of July to help get ready for the Brett
Wolf Build Brigade. Sandlin Homes of Fort Worth, is the builder on this home
and I worked with their Suprintendent, Bill ,constantly for the next two
weeks. They are an incredible team, and made this build go almost
flawlessly.
This house is about 20 miles out in the country so there were some concerns
about how many volunteer carpenters would be available for a mid week build
brigade. The general contractor was able to convince his framing crews to
donate their time as well as two other crews that were willing to help out
with the project, which meant that we would not be relying as much on
volunteers to show up. However the first day we had over 250 people sign
in!!!!. As a side note, I should mention that Parker County is the Cutting
horse and Quarter horse capital of the world. I know this because at least
40 people have told me so since I have been here. I will admit that I have
seen some fantastic horses as I drive around the area.
Grading on the site started on the 23rd of July and was completed on the
24th

the concrete crew then put up the perimeter forms the same afternoon as the
grading was completed.
The next day they drilled holes and placed concrete for the support piers.
This is needed in this region because of the clay soil conditions.

On Monday the 27th, the plumbing crew excavated trenches, and installed all
of the underground plumbing.
The next 2 days we had 3 inches of rain and were not able to work on the
site. The concrete crew
returned on Thursday the 30th, to backfill and trench for the interior
concrete footings.
they then graded the building pad with sand, which was followed by black
poly as a vapor barrier,
and installation of the post tension cables.
On Friday the form crew returned to complete all of the exterior and
interior forms. Ready for inspection
During this same period of time, the well driller competed drillng for the
water well.
Good water was found at around 200 feet with a 20 gallon a minute flow rate.
On Monday the 3rd of August, concrete for the slab was poured and finished.
This started at 4:00 am
and was completed around noon.

All of the lumber and trusses were delivered, along with the wall panels.
this is the
first time we have put one of these home up with pre-framed wood wall
panels. It worked well.

PGR escort arrives at site
Now the big day has arrived. We started framing at 7:00 am, and had all of
the walls raised except for the front entry
wall by 10: am . At that time the Veteran arrived in a pace car from Texas
Motor Speedway that was escorted by the
Parker County Sheriff and the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders. The Ride
Capt. was Dewey Dyer and he put together a
great group from PGR, as well as provided nearly 50 flags to display for the
event
After a prayer by a pastor from Adell Community Church few speeches
Brett Wolf and his wife Kelly were positioned in the front doorway while the
final wall was raised above them.

Construction continued thru late in the day on Wednesday, At the end of the
day we had a framed house.
Thursday had a different set of carpenters start all of the plywood sheeting
and soffit framing. We also had volunteers
who helped with the wall plywood, and the building wrap.

build brigade.
Friday the roofing crew arrived to start work, and all of the doors and
windows were installed

Water line control manifold. Each fixture in the house can be controlled
from here.
So after 3 very long hot days, with lots of volunteers who helped to keep
the workers fed, and supplied with water
cleaned up lumber, pulled nails, and in general, did what ever was needed
As well as cool ties from The Hugs Project that the crews used to deal with
the 100 + heat,
Thanks Christy.
We were able to have another Home For Our Troops well on its way to
completion.!!!!!
Thanks to all who participated and contributed in this event. Good luck to
Sandlin Homes as they continue
working to provide a home for a deserving Wounded Warrior and his Family.
