Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'd been searching, without success, for some time for just the right
message to send to everyone to celebrate the New Year. I've been looking
for a way to adequately express my gratitude as well as that of the families
that we've served and a way to encourage everyone to stay the course and
fight any feelings that maybe we weren't doing as much good as we'd hoped,
etc. For some reason, I was really struggling with the words to use to
convey my thoughts. Then, like a bolt out of the blue, those words were
delivered to me on a silver platter.
Today I received an e-mail. That e-mail was from a long time and very good
friend of mine, Steve von Roeder in Austin. Steve is a Ride Captain in
Austin and one of the finest human beings I know. His e-mail speaks for
itself and sends a great message to us all. It sends every sentiment that I
could have ever hoped to voice. It speaks from the heart of one person
directly to the heart of all of us. When I asked Steve if I could share the
message he wrote back that I could and that the message was intended for all
of us. You'll know what I mean when you read it. It's brief, but I think
it's quite powerful.
By the way, the only marking on Steve's truck that he is with the PGR is a
small sticker on the back window.
The message follows. Happy New Year to all.and Thank you.
While we were shopping yesterday over by the Mighty Fine burger place I had
parked the truck out front. When we returned to the truck and headed out of
the parking lot, I noticed a small white piece of paper under my wiper
blade. I stopped to retrieve it and it was a little note that said '"
Thanks for what you do to honor our fallen heroes. - a grateful Army wife"
I was stunned and wished I had seen who had been so thoughtful. But it made
my entire day.
