Ladies and Gentlemen,
We have learned today that some of the services for Sergeant Gregory Owens,
Jr., of Garland, TX, who was recently killed in action in Afghanistan, will
be held in the metroplex. Sergeant Owens is scheduled to arrive early
tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) at the Joint Reserve Base (Carswell) by private
charter. We have been asked by the family to be there and we will also ride
in a procession to Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. There will be a funeral
service for Sgt. Owens later in the week. The plan is still in place for
him to be laid to rest in Louisiana.
Please forgive this short notice but this information has only developed
over the last few hours. An itinerary is still being developed by the
family, the Army and the local facilities and when that is in place we can
finalize ours. As soon as it is available it will be posted.
I would like to thank everyone for being patient but this is what we're here
for. It's up to us to go where they are, no matter when or with what kind
of notice. Be they veteran or KIA our sole mission is to be there for them
and for their families, just as they are there for us and have been there
for us and our parents and families, and for their parents and families
before them.
The great compliment paid us by Major General Oates in Dallas rings true in
our ears as a charge to us and as a call to duty. "The Patriot Guard is
Always There." Please let that be in all of our minds and in all of our
hearts as we go about honoring our heroes and patriots.
More information will follow. As soon as we know, you'll know.
Steve Lucas
Deputy State Captain
North Texas PGR
