Ladies and Gentlemen,
North Texas riders - we will be sharing this message with our brothers and
sisters in East Texas so that we're all in sync.
We have an update (as of a couple of hours ago) on Amy Rubin's ride through
Texas heading for Shreveport. Just about everything we thought we knew has
changed.
She is now coming from Wichita Falls southbound on Friday instead of Sunday.
She is having bike trouble and is looking to have her starter repaired or
replaced at BMW of North Dallas whenever we can get her there on Friday and
leave from there as soon as the bike is ready. She has already talked to
them and they will be ready for her when she gets there.
She is looking to leave Wichita Falls early on Friday morning, still heading
toward Decatur, where we are looking for some folks to escort her to BMW of
North Dallas, which is actually in Plano, off of Central Expressway just
north of Plano Parkway. From there, perhaps a second group can take her to
meet with any E. TX riders who would like to take her on to LA.
The preferred route is I-20 heading East. E. TX riders - please pick a good
location and we'll try to get her there as quickly and safely as we can.
Hopefully, with the BMW shop knowing that she's coming, it won't take too
long to get her back on the road.
She is not looking for a parade and we're not looking to provide her with
one. Just a few people to go with her would be plenty. We think this is
especially important during the period while her bike is having problems.
It would simply be unmannerly for her to be out there alone under these
circumstances, especially on a Friday in Dallas traffic, etc.
At this point, we do not know her exact time of departure from Wichita Falls
on Friday. We should know that tomorrow. North Texas has a KIA mission
that will take up the majority of the afternoon and it may be difficult to
get word out regarding her departure time until tomorrow evening but I will
try if I am made aware of the departure time during the mission.
Please help by being as flexible as you can. I know that this news changes
everything but it is what it is and that's OK. The PGR is used to that.
That's why we wear the Semper Gumby patch with great pride.
I know that North Texas also has a mission on Friday morning but for anyone
unable to attend that mission please be thinking about if you can be in
Decatur around mid-morning to help get Ms. Rubin to Plano or in Plano a bit
later to help her get to the meeting place with E. TX. When I spoke with
her a little while ago on the phone, she had just finished supper with
Grinch and a couple of the PGR folks in the Panhandle and she couldn't speak
highly enough of them. She said that Texas was by far the friendliest state
she had been in and the state that took her in most like family. I believe
she's spending the night tonight in Amarillo. I wonder if they took her to
the Big Texan for a little piece of steak.
North Texas riders; if you think you might be able to be at either location
- either Decatur or Plano, please e-mail me at pgrlucas at charter.net and let
me know. When I can narrow down the times for you I will..but remember this
is Friday and not Sunday.
Thanks to all for your patience, flexibility and all that you do every day
to support those in need.
Steve Lucas
Deputy State Captain
North Texas PGR
