Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have just gotten off the phone with Ms. Rubin. She is leaving Wichita
Falls at about 8:00AM tomorrow. Her route is south on Highway 287 to
Decatur. She is not aware of anyone accompanying her on that part of her
ride. From there, she needs to go to Plano, to the BMW dealership to get
her starter repaired/replaced. They are expecting her and have told her
that the job will take about an hour to complete. The dealership
information is:
BMW Motorcycles of North Dallas
900 Ave. K, Suite 100
Plano, TX 75074
972-881-0774

>From there, she will be ready to head to Shreveport via I-20. Her plan is
to get back on 75 (Central) South to 635(LBJ) and head east using the HOV
lane to I-20 and then east.
We need any available riders to be able to meet her in Decatur and take her
to the BMW dealership in Plano. The best route may be to take Hwy 380 from
Decatur all the way to McKinney and then down Central into Plano. There are
some shortcuts but there is also always a lot of construction through that
area and it's easy to get delayed significantly if you don't know the way.
Also remember that she doesn't have a toll tag so those routes are to be
avoided also. I am committed to being at tomorrow morning's mission and
cannot go to Decatur. If you can, and can be there no later than 9:00AM in
the area north of the HWY 380 exit off of HWY 287 please let me know right
away at pgrlucas at charter.net. If you have a flag bike or other way for her
to know that you are there for her (so she can spot you) that's even better.
It should take a little over an hour to get to Plano.
We then need to get her from the BMW dealership to a location where any East
Texas Riders may be able to escort her to LA. Depending on weather - maybe
we can get her on her way by noon.
Let's not let her down, folks. She's been on a very long ride for a good
cause. Her husband is a PGR rider and I'm sure he'd appreciate it if we
helped look after her and help her on this journey in support of the
military. She just told me tonight that their son recently turned 18 and
came home and told them one day they didn't have to worry about paying for
college, that he'd just joined the Army. He had done this without telling
them. Her husband is Air Force and she was a civilian employee for the
Marine Corps for 8 years. Their family is very much about patriotism and
defending our country. We can certainly take the time to make a couple of
short hops to help her along her way on her mission of support for military
education.
Once again, we're not looking for a parade and neither is she. A couple of
folks would be just fine, but let's get her where she's going safely. It's
the right thing to do.
Thanks, everyone.
Steve Lucas
Deputy State Captain
