PGR_NTX Patriot Guard Mission Update - SFC Raymond J. Munden, KIA

Ladies and gentlemen,
In just a few minutes the final itinerary for the KIA mission for Sergeant
First Class Raymond J. Munden will be published. I would like to
respectfully remind everyone, especially the newer riders among us, that
this mission is being treated by us as a KIA mission in every sense of the
term. SFC Munden was buried in New York, but his mother and step-father,
his brother and his family, and many other relatives live right here in our
area. The only difference in this mission and a "traditional" KIA mission
is that we will not be welcoming and receiving SFC Munden home as part of
the mission. SFC Munden's wife and his 4 children will be attending the
memorial service, as will the rest of the family. This will be the first
time that his many friends and neighbors from our area will be able to pay
their respects to him and to the family. The community will also be there
to pay their respects, also.
While it's true that the PGR treats all of our military with great respect
and honor and that all who put on our nation's uniform are very special to
us, be they 18 years old or 118 years old, a member of our military who has
recently been killed in action holds a special place for everyone.
I had heard a little bit of confusion about this and felt compelled to say a
word about it. I ask as many of you as possible to attend, as you would any
other KIA mission. Just as you will for the mission for Staff Sergeant
Jeremy E. Bessa, KIA in Afghanistan. That mission is Monday and Tuesday of
next week.
You will be very glad you did.
Thank you for your time.
Steve Lucas
Deputy State Captain
North Texas PGR
