Fellow riders,
An opportunity is coming our way to take advantage of training that doesn't
often come to our area. The first weekend in November, classes are being
offered on what to do at the scene of a motorcycle accident. These classes
are geared specifically and especially for motorcycle involved accidents.
The include extricating riders from bikes/accident debris safely, first aid
and life saving procedures, etc., including when and how to remove a rider's
helmet if required.
Attached are 2 flyers. One is for day one of the training, the basic
course. The other is for day 2 of the training, the advanced course. You
must have the basic before you can take the advanced. The courses are being
held in Bridgeport, TX and the instructor is coming from Houston. I have
spoken with the instructor and she says that she will have a couple of
assistants and the facility is fairly large so she anticipates being able to
have about 45 students. There is a charge of $45 per class, per person.
Details on the program, the nationwide agency that developed and conducts
the classes, etc., can be found at their main website,
www.accidentscene.org.
If you would like to register for the class online, you may do so at
www.accidentscene.org.htm#tx. Please note that the $45 charge for the class
is $10 less than the regular fee. This is because of a fund raiser that was
held in Decatur a few months ago for the express purpose of having these
classes in this area.
We in the North Texas PGR, we all must admit, have been fortunate in our
missions in not having a serious accident. In the metroplex area we ride a
great deal on busy highways and we've all experienced some close calls, even
with the best law enforcement escorts. We even saw 2 DPS cars drive one
violator clear up an embankment in order to keep them off of us during a
procession when that driver was bound and determined to not only break into
the procession but to drive around both of those DPS cars to do it. Any
driver that foolish certainly wasn't showing enough clarity of thought to be
safe around the rest of the procession. Here is a chance to take one or two
courses specifically geared toward motorcycles and the types of situations
and injuries that happen around US.
I encourage everyone to at least go to the web site and check it out for
yourself and either use the forms attached or the web link to sign up for
the classes as soon as you can if you think it is something you would like
to do. I hope to see you there.
Thanks for your time.
