Mission Report
October 27, 2009
The returning Honor Flight to Love Field was an amazing success. As the honored veterans deplaned at Love Field they walked through a gauntlet of proud Americans applauding them and welcoming them home. There first steps out of the jet way took them between six Bagpipers and two drummers playing a march to welcome them home. As they passed around the corner through the crowd they were met in the hallway by 15 Junior ROTC students at attention rendering a hand salute. Across from the student were members of the Patriot Guard holding the Patriot Guard Banner and welcoming them home. The normal flow of commuters was held up by Homeland Security Officers who were allowing the veterans to deplane to their welcome home. Several hundred passengers in the terminal took the delay with a smile and applauded the veterans. The delayed passengers only added to the number of well wishers who were there to welcome these men home. It soon became apparent to all that these men became very emotional over their welcome home. One of the veterans was heard to said “I can’t believe this many people still care about us”.
