Daniel “Peg Leg” Kelly was born in 1949 and passed away last Tuesday. He lost his leg in Viet Nam while serving as a helicopter Door Gunner with Helicopter Attack Squadron Light 3 (The Seawolves). The Seawolves provide direct combat support for the Navy Seals and Navy River Boats. Dan was on a mission to save a Navy Seal Team when his helicopter was caught in an ambush and brought down by enemy fire which led to the amputation of his leg. Dan was not the type of person to stop at that point in life; he wrote two books about his experiences and also rode a specially equipped Harley. One of Dan’s former crewmembers, a fellow door gunner will arrive from Alaska.. Dan’s son and his old shipmate will ride the escort together on Dan’s final mission.
