This will also kick off the Texas grassroots awareness of the Vietnam Educational Museum, which will be built near the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C..Governor Rick Perry will be the keynote speaker. Governor Perry was the first governor to sign on to the National Leadership team with Jan Scruggs, the founder of the Memorial Wall, to preserve the memory of the 58,000+ names carved in the Wall. The Governor?s speaking at DFW National Cemetery on this date is a special note as well. The man recognized as the father of the DFW Cemetery, Cloyde C. Pinson, Sr., who led the effort to bring a National Cemetery to the Dallas/Fort Worth area lost his son in Vietnam. Cloyde C. Pinson, Jr., USMC, was killed in action 12 May 1967?and his name is on the Wall along with 3,415 more Texans. Mr. Pinson passed away April 14, 2006?two days after Cloyde, Jr. was moved from the original burial site in Dallas to the National Cemetery. The two of them now rest side by side at the top of the hill at the cemetery. The event will take place near their null across from the administration building. So, with DFW Cemetery having a direct connect to Texans killed in Vietnam?and the Patriot Guard Riders wanting to honor and preserve the memories of these fallen hero's for all time at the Educational Museum Center, we were asked to participate. Larry Umhe, from Greenville, Texas went down yesterday near Commerce & Cooper Texas. Larry was taken to a local hospital in Sulphur Springs, from there was airlifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas where he is in the Intensive Care Unit. ICU, Room 3363 I just talked with Beth, his wife and she said his major problem right now is internal bleeding from broken ribs and a possible punctured lung. His injuries include facial lacerations and broken bones. He is talking and said he is real sore but still has his smile. Larry had gone for a ride with his dog (Bude) who was in the trailer behind the bike. It appears the trailer started to sway which caused him to lose control which ended up as a single vehicle accident. Bude is doing fine, which was one of Larry?s biggest worries. Many of you are familiar with Larry & Beth from the escort rides (Black, Honda Gold Wing, ?Larry?s Toy, Greenville, TX?) Beth will be keeping us informed on Larry?s condition and we ask that each of you keep them in your prayers. We will park facing up the hill toward shelter A with 2 bikes side by side as close to the curb and each other as possible so that traffic can get by. This arrangement keeps the motorcycle and voice noise to a minimum around the shelters during the services and appears to meet the needs of the cemetery.
