font-family:"Times New Roman","serif"'>Mr. Lawrie entered the military under
the Thomason Act, which gave regular Army commissions to the top 10 percent of
the ROTC classes. During World War II Mr. Lawrie served in the Pacific Theatre
where he distinguished himself with the Airborne. Later in his career he
was known as the only General to ever capture a Japanese General. Mr.
Lawrie had a military career covering 31 years, earning the rank of Major
General. His career ended with his retirement following his final duty as
Commanding General of the 82 Airborne Division for a period during Vietnam. Mr.
Lawrie had just turned 95 years of age at the time of his death. A true
American Hero and an honored member of the greatest generation.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
